In your computer system in the area labeled Performance Information and Tools there is a list of tasks you can perform to optimize your computers performance. You can also find information about what your system is capable of. To get to this utility you need to click on the Start button then click on the Control Panel. In System and Maintenance you will find the Performance Information and Tools.
In the left pane of the utility you will see a list of tasks. These tasks can be used to improve how your computer runs.
The first task is where you can manage your startup programs. Many programs will startup automatically when you boot up your computer. These can cause your computer to be slow and non-responsive. When you disable the unnecessary programs from automatically starting up you can significantly improve your computers performance.
The next task will allow you to adjust the visual effects of your computer. There is even an ‘optimize performance’ feature you can just click on and it will remove all the special effects installed on your system.
Adjusting the indexing options can also improve your computers performance. Indexing allows you to find faster what you are looking for on your PC during searches. If you turn off this feature you can improve the efficiency of your searches by narrowing your search focus.
The Disk Cleanup task will allow you to find and remove the temporary and unnecessary files freeing up hard drive space helping to improve the speed of your system.
