Twenty steps to improving the speed your computer starts up and runs.
Step Two: use the Disk Defragmenter utility including the registry and pagefiles.
Step Three: Delay the startup time of programs that may be causing your computer to boot up slower.
Step Four: Use the MSCONFIG utility to disable programs that automatically startup.
Step Five: Optimize the page file size.
Step Six: Turn off indexing services.
Step Seven: Change Performance and visual effects settings to optimal performance.
Step Eight: Clean the system registry eliminating broken shortcuts.
Step Nine: install and keep up to date a good anti-adware, spyware and virus detection and removal program.
Step Ten: Remove pre-installed programs that you do not use.
Step Eleven: disable Windows, settings, services and programs that are unnecessarily slowing down your PC.
Step Twelve: for Vista machines disable the User Account Control.
Step Thirteen: Tweak mouse settings allowing you to copy, paste, navigate and scroll faster.
Step Fourteen: remove unused and temporary files using CCleaner or another utility.
Step Fifteen: Delete temporary internet files, cookies and browsing history.
Step Sixteen: Empty the prefetch folder.
Step Seventeen: For XP machines disable the boot logo.
Step Eighteen: Remove unneeded fonts.
Step Nineteen: free up RAM by unloading DLLs from memory.
Step Twenty: for better performance run DOS software in separate memory space.
