There are many things that can slow down your computers system when it has to open programs and access data. If you can improve how fast these functions work you will improve your computers performance overall.
Over time as you add programs, remove programs, play games, surf the internet, and read and write to files they can become separate bits that are scattered all over the hard drive of the computer. While computers have effective ways to find all the information that it needs it still takes longer when the files and programs are fragmented all over the hard drive.
The Disk Defragmenter utility, provided by Microsoft in the operating system, should be run on a routine basis even weekly. But be sure to run it whenever you add or remove a lot of, or large files and when you install or un-install software.
You will find the Disk Defragmenter utility in the System Tools section of the Accessories folder of the All Programs menu. When you run the program it will analyze the hard drive and reorganize the software and programs to be in a more compact area of the drive helping your processor to locate them and save time speeding up your system.
When the analyzation process is complete it will show you the amount of space that will be reorganized and the amount of time the process will take.
When you keep performing this process on a routine basis you will see a noticeable improvement in the speed of your computer.
