Steps to Optimize your PC

Whether you want your computer to boot up faster or just run faster overall there are steps you can take to ensure both. In todays world we are rushed and do not want to have to wait for our computers to boot up or programs to load. But before you begin to make any adjustments to your computer be sure to have a good backup.

Begin by entering the Setup program when your computer boots up by hitting the Delete or other key specified in your systems documentation. You can change to a quicker startup by choosing Enabled or Fast and omit the self-test. You can disable the checking of the floppy and other drives as well to improve start times. Set the IDE option to ‘none’ on any drive you do not use.

Check for malware including adware, spyware and viruses. These malicious programs will not only slow down the startup up of your computer they will drag down the overall operation and even can cause your system to crash. You need to install an anti-virus software to prevent these issues from occurring.

Prevent as many programs from automatically starting up as possible. Auto start routines will slow down your boot time and take up other system resources. The MSCONFIG utility will help you control what automatically starts up.

Lastly keeping your system registry free from errors and defragmenting your hard drive are important for a well running system. As Microsoft does not provide a tool to automatically find registry errors you need to look to a third party.
